Abstract:   (21 Views)
Background: Intimate partner violence is a significant global public health issue and human rights violation, particularly affecting women's physical and mental well-being. Health education interventions have been shown to be effective worldwide. This review aims to identify Iranian studies utilizing health education models and theories in interventions aimed at reducing or preventing violence.
Methods: This is a narrative review of published articles on the application of health education models and theories in intimate partner violence interventions against women in Iran. The search was conducted using English keywords relevant to the topic, including domestic violence, intimate partner violence, intimate partner abuse, spouse abuse, sexual abuse, intervention and Iran with combining keywords with Boolean operators such as “AND”, “OR”, and “NOT”, which will find all articles or exclude articles with the identified keywords, to search in reliable databases, including: Google Scholar, Scopus, PubMed, etc. The use of Persian keywords such as domestic violence, wife abuse in the country's databases, including the database of Elmnet, Noormags and Scientific Information Database (SID), Civilica and Magiran. The inclusion criteria were: 1. Intervention studies where education using a model or theory in order to prevent or reduce intimate partner violence is their main intervention; 2. It has been done in Iran; 3. Studies that have been published between January 1, 2000 and the end of December 2023; 4. It is possible to access its full text. The exclusion criteria were: 1. Descriptive, qualitative and review studies, theses and unpublished studies.
Results: Out of a total of 289 identified articles related to the topic, only 5 articles have used models and theories of health education and health promotion in their interventions during the years 2000 to 2023(September).
Conclusion: Health education models and theories effectively reduce intimate partner violence, but in Iran, there is a lack of investigation into IPV as a public health issue, leading to underutilization of interventions based on health education and promotion theories.
