Abstract:   (604 Views)
Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a highly prevalent, chronic endocrine disorder affecting reproductive-age women, with an estimated global prevalence of 5%-10%. Married women with PCOS often face challenges, such as infertility and sexual dysfunction, which can strain marital relationships and further reduce quality of life (QoL). Therefore, this study aimed to assess the QoL of married women with PCOS.
Methods: A cross-sectional research design was used to assess the health-related QoL of 102 married Egyptian women diagnosed with PCOS attending the gynecological outpatient clinic and Assisted Reproductive Technology unit at the Women’s Health Hospital, Assiut University, Egypt, between March and October 2024. Data were gathered using a structured interview questionnaire and the PCOS QoL questionnaire, which were recorded on a 3-point Likert scale per domain.
Results: Data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 26 and the chi-square test. The mean age of married women was (31.33±4.70) years. The majority of women (70.6%) had irregular menstruation, and 50.0% had primary infertility. Furthermore, the duration of marriage was 5.0 (1.0-14.0) years. Half of the women had an average QoL, and the total QoL score was 2.20±0.27.
Conclusion: PCOS negatively impacts the QoL of married women. The findings highlight the need for nurse-led educational interventions focusing on lifestyle modifications.
